Which side of the pack does the oil go on?
Always the soft organic cotton side. The cotton holds the oil against your skin, while the outer layer keeps it contained.
How much oil should I use?
For a brand-new pack, use about 2 tablespoons to prime the fabric. After that, 1 tablespoon per session is enough. Our Measured in Gold Tablespoon holds exactly one. Keep the oil in the center of the pack, away from the seams, to reduce mess and help your pack last longer.
Is it messy?
Castor oil packs have a reputation for mess, which is why ours has a less-mess outer layer. It is far cleaner than a homemade pack, though not completely mess-free, so wear an old tee over it just in case.
How do I clean my pack?
Ideally, you don’t. Washing pushes oil into the outer layer and shortens the life of your pack. Use only 1 tablespoon of fresh oil each time, keep it away from the seams, and store the pack in a large glass jar between uses. If you do need to wash it, soak it overnight in warm water with 2 to 4 tablespoons of baking soda and a little natural dish soap, then hand wash, wring it out and lay flat to dry. Please don’t machine wash it.
When should I replace my pack?
Every 2 to 3 months, or after about 60 uses. Replace it sooner if the fabric feels stiff or overly saturated, or has a smell that won’t go away.
Can I use this while pregnant or breastfeeding?
Pregnancy: Please don’t use castor oil, castor oil packs or navel patches during pregnancy, especially over the belly. Talk with your healthcare provider before using castor oil in any form while pregnant.
Breastfeeding and postpartum: Check with your provider before adding castor oil to your routine.
